Experience the Farm

Highland cows • Mini donkeys • Goats • Farm events • Private experiences • Farm stays
Just outside Chattanooga in Chickamauga, Georgia

Our Story

Hixson Farms didn't begin with generations of farmers or a family farm passed down to us. We're first-generation farmers who started with a little land, a lot to learn, and an idea of the kind of place we wanted to create.

What started as our family's farm has grown into something we never really planned—a place we love sharing with other people.

Over the years, our farm family has grown to include Highland cows, mini donkeys, goats, mini horses, chickens, and plenty of personalities. Somewhere along the way, we realized that some of our favorite moments weren't just raising the animals. They were watching other people experience them.

There's something pretty special about seeing a child meet a Highland cow for the first time, watching someone discover that a donkey has decided to follow them around, or seeing a family slow down and simply enjoy being together outside.

That's why we began opening Hixson Farms to visitors.

Today, you can come to the farm for a private animal experience, one of our seasonal events, a photography session, a field trip, or even stay with us at Magnolia Campground. We try to keep our experiences small, relaxed, and personal. We want you to have time to actually interact with the animals, take pictures, ask questions, explore, and enjoy the farm without feeling rushed.

A Farm for Every Ability

Our family's experiences have also shaped what Hixson Farms is becoming.

Our son, Jacob, had cerebral palsy, used a wheelchair, and was nonverbal. Jacob experienced the world differently, but he loved being included in it. His life changed the way we think about accessibility, belonging, and what it means to create experiences that truly welcome everyone.

After losing Jacob in 2025, creating opportunities for people of all abilities became an even more important part of our farm's future.

That heart is behind our Sensory Nights—smaller, quieter farm experiences designed especially for neurodiverse individuals and families who may find traditional events overwhelming. It is also the inspiration behind A Place to Belong Foundation, Inc., which we are building to help expand inclusive and accessible experiences in our community.

We believe everyone deserves a place where they can participate, explore, make memories, and simply belong.

Come Experience the Farm

Hixson Farms isn't a petting zoo or a big commercial attraction. It's our home and our working family farm, and when you visit, we're inviting you into a little piece of our everyday life.

Some days that means feeding a Highland cow. Other days it might mean cuddling a goat, picking flowers, painting a barn quilt, watching a movie under the stars, sitting around a campfire, or waking up at Magnolia Campground to the sound of animals waiting for breakfast.

We're still growing, still learning, and usually dreaming up the next thing we can do here.

We hope you'll come experience the farm with us.
